Biggest and Best Beer Gardens Central London
Summer will soon be upon London and what better way to spend the warm days than sipping some ale in a beer garden? Our Estate Agent, London has taken a tour of the beer gardens on offer in the city and has chosen these as the best beer gardens Central London:
The Magic Garden
The Magic Garden Pub in Battersea provides quite a magical experience. The large open space has all the makings of a quirky, hippie-style garden with a flower-power taxi, soft plush sofas and armchairs, a tarpaulin shelter and an outdoor bar. You almost get the feel of being at a music concert or festival while there. They have a great selection of beer, cocktails, bar snacks and European food which you can enjoy while listening to the live music which is almost a nightly affair. And when the lights come on after dark, the whole place is transformed to live up to its name.
Pub on the Park
Pub on the Park in Hackney is right next to London Fields Station. Popular with sports fans the two outdoor spaces around the pub host big screens that display matches. Pub on the Park boasts an interesting selection of ales on the pull-pump and also have brews from different companies. When night-time comes around a DJ livens up the place with some catchy tunes which makes the place perfect for fun times with friends or even a date. The greenery from London Fields lends itself to the atmosphere of the pub giving you the real feel of being out in a park and enjoying the breeze.
Garden Gate
On the edge of Hampstead Heath, Garden Gate is a great airy, lively garden pub. The garden is graced with lush greenery and plenty of seating space. Hot favourites with the regulars are the weekend barbeques and hog roast which is hosted on occasion. The outdoor bar has all the best craft beers of the country and seasonal ales. Garden Gate Pub is always full during the summer months but even attracts a crowd in cooler weather because of the sheltered heated area. There is a historic feel to the place which helps you relax and forget the bustle of the city while you sip on your choice of beer.
The Albion
The Albion in Barnsbury is a quaint English beer garden between Upper Street and the Caledonian Road. The peaceful atmosphere, the greenery and flowers, and the selection of beers and cocktails make the Albion the perfect place to spend a summer afternoon. If beer is not so much your thing, then there is also an impressive wine selection. The menu brings you typical English comfort food and barbeques in the summer. The only thing to look out for perhaps are the prices; the Albion can be a bit expensive.
Avalon
Avalon in Balham is simply beautiful. The two terraces and a large back garden have everything you need in a beer garden. The greenery from the trees and a living wall, barbeques in summer, and of course a great choice of alcohol. A lot of trouble went into designing this garden pub, and it is visible in the details. Comfortable seating and a dedicated bar and kitchen for the outdoor area make the place a favourite with the locals who frequent Avalon on the weekends and holidays. The hog roast and Josper-grilled meats are another crowd puller and something you should try if you go there.
The Castle
The Castle is in Tooting and has been there for over a century and a half. The new décor set among the lush gardens is welcoming and bright. If you want to get out of the sun or it’s an unusually cool day, there are also eight cabana-style huts with seating and heating. The terrace also has on-demand heating for when it gets a tad chilly. To go with your beer, there is a menu-full of pub-grub including fish and chips, pies, burgers and more. For those who want to try something more refined, there’s a pork rib-eye dish that comes with interesting sides.
The Sun
The Sun in Camberwell boasts both a front and a rear beer garden with lots on the menu. Set between Brixton and Camberwell on Coldharbour Lane, the big gardens offer a nice escape from the bustle. The beer is great, and so are some of the dishes like steak pie, lamb shanks and the burgers. The pub boasts a pleasant and friendly atmosphere and the wide-open space is welcoming to many after a full day cooped up in the office. The quirky mix of vintage and modern chic furniture is an interesting addition to the Sun.
