5 simple ideas to personalise your new house

For the first few weeks after moving into a new home, it might seem like you’re staying in an Airbnb. It’s lovely, and you have picked it, so it’s clear that you like the property; but it doesn’t feel like yours yet. It takes some time before you really feel at ease in your surroundings.

On occasion, someone may purchase a house with the intention of renovating it and putting their own imprint on it. However, for the vast majority of house movers, a total renovation is not in the cards at this time.

And what if you’re a renter? It is not always possible to make a rental house more comfortable so that you feel more at home.

So, how can you get settled fast and make a new home seem like yours without breaking the bank? Here are some suggestions.

Clean. It is estimated that more than 90% of individuals thoroughly clean a home as soon as they get the keys. Even if the place was immaculate when they arrived. Even if they are aware that the carpet has been professionally cleaned. However, it does make sense, doesn’t it, in the end? You want to be certain that you are not residing in someone else’s squalid abode. The lack of cleanliness is one of the most common reasons for customer dissatisfaction in the hospitality business. There is nothing worse than being forced to sit and watch someone else’s fluff and filth. Once you have thoroughly cleaned the whole house and have seen every inch of it, including every nook and corner, you will be fully familiar with the property, enabling you to settle in appropriately.

Photographs and other personal belongings. Put your images and other personal stuff up as soon as possible. Don’t just keep them in a box in the garage till you get the opportunity to work on them. If you are feeling like an impostor in your new home, displaying your daily belongings and family pictures may help you feel more at ease and at home.

Curtains and soft furnishings are included. As soon as you are able to, get your own curtains for your home. In most cases, the curtains hanging in your new home were left by the previous occupants. Of course, we have all experienced the frustration of attempting to hang a bed sheet on a window with drawing pins just to get through the first few days in a new location. It will take just a few minutes to add your own touch to the rooms by hanging drapes you have selected for the home or brought from your previous residence (if they fit). Because a window dominates at least one wall in every room, curtains may make a significant impact in the appearance of a house and in no time at all.

Ornaments. Although ornaments and decorations are not what you would consider a high-priority box to unpack, they typically have emotional significance and may elicit pleasant recollections. While it is not necessary for survival, it is possible that you would not feel as lost if your memories are all around you.

Scent. Emotions may be elicited by any or all of the five senses. Every now and again, a location may simply not smell right. Try burning scented candles or using air fresheners that you utilised in your prior residence to elicit memories of your previous residence.

I understand that some of this might seem a bit ‘woo woo’ to you. The fact is that relocating is a difficult experience and that, after you have settled in, it is easy to dismiss the work that has already been done since the legal procedure is so definitive. Everything is dependent on the successful conclusion of the legal transaction. Your inner voice tells you that everything will be great after you have finished the transaction. Then you’ll be able to move in. However, rather than being ecstatic or glad that you have finally relocated, you find yourself spending the next several weeks practically living in someone else’s home.

If you can become comfortable in your new house as soon as possible, you will be able to start enjoying the new space that you have been working for over the last several months!

I’ve heard several stories of folks who relocated shortly before Christmas and found that the only item they really unpacked was their Christmas tree. Despite the fact that they were surrounded by boxes, they had their Christmas tree up and decorated since it felt like home to them!

The feeling of being at home is quite emotional. It is much more than simply a pile of bricks and mortar. However, when you are in a new location, it may take some time before you begin to feel at ease. The sooner you can begin to feel at ease in your new home, the sooner you can begin to love your new property.

Investigate the potentially surprising effect that the colour of your front door may have on the value of your property.
Every house has a front door, which serves as both an entrance and an exit. It’s one of the first things that people notice when they arrive. As soon as they approach the house and ring the doorbell or drive by, they get their first sight of what may be located within and what secrets will be disclosed once the door is opened.

As the saying goes, you only have one opportunity to create a good first impression, and decisions are often made in a matter of seconds rather than minutes. In other words, you don’t have much time to catch the eye of the ideal buyer for your house.

Perhaps this is why studies have revealed that the colour of a front door can really have an impact on the value of a home’s market value. If the colour of your house is unappealing, you may never be able to get a prospective buyer through the door, and your opportunity to sell your property to them will be gone forever.

What does the appearance of your front door say about your house?

The mysteries that lie behind closed doors have a plethora of possibilities and might pique people’s interest. Are you looking for a fashionable, modern house or a comfortable family room that you can call home? Is it possible that the door may open up to a new existence waiting to create new memorable memories?

Historically, we’ve been infatuated with doors since the Georgian era. If a property’s entryway symbolised the residents’ money and social position, it was possible to determine the owner’s influence from the outside.

To showcase the expensive decorations they could afford, they placed stained glass, elegant door frames, and even columns to their doorways – the more extravagant, the better!

We are all aware that a household’s affluence is no longer symbolised by a doorway; in fact, some of the world’s richest individuals are among the least conspicuous on the planet. However, it is possible that a great deal about a home’s interior may be gleaned from the initial impression that the door makes.

What does the appearance of your front door say about your home? And, maybe more crucially, might it be having an impact on the value?

Color is a very important element. It has the ability to elicit a certain sense of what is behind the door.

Are you looking for a trendy, executive home, a wacky, creative house full of life and passion, or a quietly elegant home? We can help.

The use of vibrant and vivid colours such as turquoise, pink, and yellow conveys the idea of a modern, exciting house and attracts the attention of potential buyers. These colours, which exude an almost childish delight and a feeling of innocence, are particularly appealing to creative arty types, as well as those who have a young family.

A rural house would be decorated in subdued mild grey, white, or sage green tones- as would be expected. Not only are these colours relaxing but they are also inviting.

Executive, sleek and black entrance doors slightly give off a “Downing Street” appearance. The inside of a home with a black door is most likely going to be smart and classy, just as what one would anticipate.

In the same way that a post box or a London bus are iconically British, a red front door communicates a vivid and passionate personality. When it comes to a property with a red door, one would anticipate bright, bold interiors with strong accent colours and a modern design that is not too fashionable in style.

Traditional legacy colours are linked with period residences and architectural details. This is a rather secure choice since using a traditional historical colour, such as British racing green or royal blue, will almost certainly not cause disagreement among customers. Despite this, it will blend in with the rest of the houses on the market. These rich jewel tones will neither attract nor deter purchasers; they are the front-door equivalent of magnolia in terms of aesthetics. Perhaps this explains why royal blue is considered the most ‘precious’ of all the colours. Because it appeals to the widest possible spectrum of individuals?

It is said that having a blue front door may really make a difference of up to £4000 in the price of a home! A brown door, on the other hand, might actually have a negative influence on the value of your property, depreciating it by around £400.

Before you all go out and purchase some blue paint, take a moment to consider the inside of the house. Is the outside of your home representative of the interior? Perhaps you could alter the colour to better suit your own style in order to attract the ideal buyer for your home?

Let us know if you have a front door that is a unique colour or style. We are interested in a wide range of houses and like learning more about the home that is hidden behind the front door of a property.
